This article explains how to zero-out scores in the Canvas gradebook for those students who did not complete an assessment in MyEducator.
The MyEducator grade passback system requires students to launch an assessment from an assessment link in Canvas in order to have the requisite information to successfully pass grades. Oftentimes, students will not take the required assessments and will receive a zero score in MyEducator, but that zero score cannot automatically be passed back to Canvas.
Below are the steps to zero-out the scores in Canvas.
1. In your Canvas course, navigate to the Grades page.
2. Identify the gradebook assessment to update and hover over its title to see an “options” button ("three dots” button). Click that button.
3. A dropdown menu will appear. Select the Set Default Grade option.
4. A pop-up menu will appear.
5. In the pop-up menu, enter a zero in the text box. DO NOT SELECT THE “OVERWRITE ALREADY-ENTERED GRADES” OPTION. Click the Set Default Grade button.
A score of zero will be applied to all missing grades in that assessment’s Gradebook column. Once a student accesses the MyEducator assessment through the respective Canvas assignment link and submits the assessment, their grade will update accordingly.
