This is a guide for manually creating MyEducator reading links in your Canvas course.
To be able to manually create MyEducator reading links in your Canvas course, the MyEducator CanvasConnect external tool app must already be installed (refer to this guide), the CanvasConnect external tool link must already be placed in your Canvas course (refer to this guide) and you must have a MyEducator resource connected to your Canvas course (refer to this guide). Additionally, you will need to ask for and receive a spreadsheet of reading link URLs from your MyEducator sales representative.
1. Request a list of reading link URLs from your MyEducator Representative.
2. Navigate to your Canvas course.
3. Navigate to the Modules page. Add a new module.
4. Give the new module a name (“MyEducator Links” works great). Click the Add Module button.
5. Click the plus icon to add a module sub-item. .
6. Change the top dropdown menu from Assignment to External Tool. A list of external tool link options, as well as text bars and module sub-item options will now populate the area below the dropdown.
7. At this point, refer to the reading link spreadsheet sent to you by the MyEducator representative you have been working with. Identify the section of the resource you would like to create as a reading link in your Canvas course.
8. Copy the section name/number from the spreadsheet and paste it into the “Page Name” text bar. Copy the section reading link URL and paste it into the “URL” text bar. Verify that the Load in a new tab option is selected. Click the Add Item button.
9. Verify the reading link has been created. Click into the reading link you just created to verify it works as expected.
10. Click the Load [reading link title] in a new window button.
You have successfully manually created a MyEducator reading link in your Canvas course! Return to the Canvas course Modules page to repeat this process for as many sections of the MyEducator resource as you would like. For any assistance, contact support@myeducator.com.
