Some students may feel there isn't enough space on the page to display the content when they open an assignment or section of the book. Here's how you can allow your students to open the material in a new tab to give it a little more breathing room.

Open an Assignment in a New Tab

Go to the assignments link in Canvas.

Look on the right hand side of the assignment in question and click on the three vertical dots, then choose 'Edit'.

In the new window, click on the 'more options' button.

Find the Submission Type section at the bottom and click the box next to 'Load this tool in a New Tab'.

Finally, click 'save'.

From now on, a button will be available in that assignment your students can click on to open it in a new tab!

Open an Book Section in a New Tab

In Canvas, go to Modules.

Look on the right hand side of the module in question and click on the three vertical dots, then choose 'Edit'. Be sure you click on the three vertical dots next to the section of the book you want to enable, not the header for that section.

In the new window click the 'Load in a New Tab' button, then click Update.

The button to load that section of the book will now appear for your students!
